There are two kinds of anime.
The series involves a young man out on a quest with a goal that seems impossible. He is accompanied by a female and male companion. What is their goal you may be asking, simple, to get them all. The protagonist goes through many hardships but thanks to the help of his friends he is able to overcome them. Battling many opponents from large to small, he loses many friends along the way but this doesn’t stop him from going after what he wants more then anything else in the world.

Original costume + Character designs for “The 5th Element” .
For Aaron cos you my boo
ME AND THE BEAU JUST WATCHED THE OVA, I NEED META STAT.
These are amazing questions. I would be so hard pressed between 2 and 3 tbh (the fact they exampled Fifth Element / Heroes respectively makes me want to jump on the questions mmm)
I was going to go with that one at first purely because I nearly blasted off the guest lecturer’s head when I was rolling off all the gender ethics behind The 5th Element (The worlds most powerful weapon and most revered being in the galaxy is female, The metro sexual and flamboyant male is a universally known straight sex symbol …..oh my days so many things)
I’m going to start my production journal tomorrow night (Should have done that weeks ago but from me asking around it doesn’t seem like ANYONE else has started either….my work ethic is terrible).
I suck at writing something awful because of my dyslexia too so any kind of written work results in a mental breakdown.
Despite this I’m stupidly happy with the essay questions I have to include.
Bearing in mind I’m on a SFX + Wig making Degree course, I have to write 2000 words on one of the following -
1) How are historical periods, subjects in film or television drama interpreted
for a contemporary audience and what factors contribute to their approach?
Discuss this question with reference to one example such as The Tudors (2007-
2010), Jane Eyre (2011) Downton Abbey (2010-2012), Parade’s End (2012) or
2) How do films set in the future reflect the social, political and popular culture
of the time they are produced in?
Focus on one particular film to examine this question, for example, The Matrix
(1999), Metropolis (1927), Total Recall (1990), Inception (2010), District 9 (2009),
The Hunger Games (2010), Fifth Element (1997).
3) Examine the changing images of men and/or women in action or superheo
films or television series. How do these images reflect the changing
construction of gender roles in society?
Choose one or two productions to examine this issue such as Supergirl (1984),
Elektra (2005), G.I Jane (1997), Xena, Warrior Princess (1995-2001), Heroes (2006-
2010), (Buffy The Vampire Slayer (TV 1997-2003) and James Bond (films 1962-
4) Communicating fashion: brands. Examine the relationship between fashion
brands, designers and hair and makeup professionals.
Consider how this approach uses or constructs a brand DNA and discuss this issue
concentrating on one brand such as Dior, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood or Dolce &
5) Both Simone De Beauvior and Judith Bulter argue that sexuality and gender
is a socially constructed phenomenon, and is not simply `natural’. Discuss this
in relation to a television programme, theatre performance or film that is
(explicitly or implicitly) dealing with sexuality, gender and identity.
Choose one or two examples, for instance films could range from Paris is Burning
(1990) to Gypsy Blood (2012) to Girl Model (2011); a theatre/dance production might
look at the Trockaderos (currently performing and available on DVD) or Matthew
Bourne’s Swan Lake (likewise available on DVD), or a TV programme might be
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (2004-present).
6) In his article Masculinity as Spectacle, Steve Neal argues that “…the
musical…[is] the only genre in which the male body has been unashamedly put
on display in mainstream cinema in any consistent way.’ Discuss in relation to
one or two musicals of your choice.
You might consider films from the early Hollywood period such as Footlight Parade
(1933) or later films from the classical Hollywood period such as Singing in the Rain
(1955). You could also consider contemporary films such as Enchanted (2007) or
when TV serials such as Scrubs (2010-2010) have one off musical episodes.
